Finding Your Style in Home Decoration: A Guide to Understand

A homeowner who has undergone renovation just like all of you. The pitfalls of home renovation are huge, and when you're left feeling isolated, we hope to stand with you. During our renovation, the most common question vendors may ask you is "What style are you going for?" Have you ever been asked this question? In this article, we will discuss what I consider the biggest pseudo-proposition in decoration – Style. To solve this problem, you only need one theory, from J's Living House, who started writing guides four years ago. At that time, we thought the whole concept of style was completely ruined. Do you really understand what European style is? Then what is American style? What about the Mediterranean? What you think of as Mediterranean might seem American to someone else. So, what is American style? Is it the kind you see in American coffee shops? Does the White House count as American style, like the interior decoration in the series "House of Cards"? In fact, it uses a lot of pure New World European decoration colors. I have always believed that in China, discussing the style of home decoration is meaningless and powerless.

The true essence of a royal court and the true spirit of Japan are not what we think they are; they are merely adapted imports. Let me share a story with you first. My friend started his renovation journey by browsing beautiful images online. After looking at hundreds of pictures, he thought he had summed up the feeling he wanted and confidently looked for a designer. He said he wanted a Nordic style with a touch of Japanese simplicity and modernity. The designer also confidently agreed, nodding sincerely, saying, " I know what feeling you want." But you don't know anything! Normal people don't know either.

Back to the topic, style is actually a general concept. Japanese, Nordic, modern, light luxury, retro, American, simple American, shabby chic, Chinese, and new Chinese. They can also be combined in pairs. What modern Japanese, Nordic luxury, modern American, modern new Chinese, are you feeling dizzy? So how do we quickly find a style we like? What you need to do is granularity. It is to refine and break down the things in the pictures that you particularly like one by one. How to do it specifically,

Surely it's not just about falling in love with a hazy feeling, refined from the following points: Lines, Color Consistency, Color Echo, and Element Combination. It's very abstract. Let's take a picture to tell you, and you'll understand.

Tip #1 - Lines

First, let's talk about the lines in this picture. The furniture doesn't have any fancy lines. It's just straight, simple lines. There's no fancy design or curve on it. It's super clean and neat.

Second, let's look at the color. It's a light wood color that gets less and less saturated. Only some bright colors are mixed in, like ginger yellow and green. What is consistency? For example, the wood it uses. The safe issue is to use the same feeling for all wood

Tip #2 - Color Consistency

Secondly, we also need to analyze its color, the rich light wood color that is continuously reduced in saturation, and some bright colors are given locally, such as ginger yellow and green.

What exactly do you like? Do you like the natural feel of the cement-colored walls with wood grain, or do you like the bright yellow and gray tones? Refine these ideas and tell your designer what you really like.

Tell me that you like the natural feel of cement walls with wood grain, instead of telling your designer, I like this feeling of modern industrial style in Nordic

Tip #3 - Color Echo

Let's take a look at a few cases together. We will analyze some cases by our customers' houses and all the pictures we've taken after they moved in. When we visit their homes, they always have a lively atmosphere. Let's check out these pictures together. The consistency in this case is simple: white wood grain, repeated over and over. Solid wood dining table, wood veneer cabinets, wood grain floor tiles,

The color echo doesn't have too many complex colors, only a few light green groups to echo. You can find another combination of cement and wood grain, followed by white and light colors. The clean wood grain is also right, as we just said, let it be refreshing all the time. Let the thick one always be thick. The aesthetics of the interior space are superimposed, not comprehensive.

Tip #4 - Element Combination

Next, analyze the color scheme. It uses a futuristic cold color system, and in the choice of lighting, it also uses a relatively cold color. The texture is perfect with this cool feeling.

In another case, for consistency, the Walnut wood here is nice and consistent. If you dig this vibe, you should keep it. There are also cabinets and curtains, all nice and consistent. One not-so-obvious consistency is that stainless steel mirror materials are used in spaces with cold colors. To be cool, you have to go all in.

The colors in this space are not too many, and the repetition of the cold color is harmonious. If you like this set, you should try to refine the elements in the space to make it smoother. For example, leather sofas will be cooler than cloth sofa and go perfectly with the stainless steel mirror coffee table. Plus white side table, white TV Cabinet and white esports chair. If you want to express your love for this space to the designer, you should refine it to this level of detail. Otherwise, this picture can only be generally summarized as a New Modern Style.

Great Idea

Another great case. This one has softer lines than before. It has a round coffee table, a side machine, an arched door, and a round single chair. Its overall style is retro and super cool. You should definitely check it out. This round shape makes the space look really fancy. Next, let's talk about the color scheme. If you like this case, you should totally remember this color scheme and use it in your own project. Dark green, dark red, bright yellow, brown, this is a perfect example of how to use colors. The color matching and the color selection also create a good balance between bright and deep.

ree

Let's chat about some cool design features in this picture! For one, the consistency and color are top-notch. The shiny leather elephant goes perfectly with the brown leather sofa. The vibrant yellow tassel pillow and bright yellow single sofa are a match made in heaven. The green throw pillow and green wall color even match the dark green dining chairs. Even the metal editor and the metal legs of the table, and the metal picture frame all harmonize perfectly. A pro designer could totally nail this kind of detail matching.

ree

Next, let's talk about element combinations. These are matched based on the refined elements, like a leather sofa and a metal coffee table, or a bright flannel single and a leather sofa. Don't think that flannel is unimportant. If we put a linen sofa here, it would clash and ruin the whole look. This includes dining chairs and other pieces of furniture. The flannel element is used as an overall touch to all the furniture in the room.

Alright, someone might argue, "Why don't I just send my case I have to the designer?" Can you guarantee that the designer knows what you like about this case? Can they figure out that you like the cement background wall, or the wood grain, or the white wall, or that you just like the vibe of the green plants? They can't. This lazy approach is not acceptable. So, saying that I like a certain style is pretty much the same as saying nothing at all.

These are all the elements of the match. These can include colors, objects, herringbone, and this kind of paving method. You just gotta find what you like best, or ask yourself why you like this picture. In the end, you can get the effect you want in your heart. Make a list of all of it, it's all about your aesthetics, your style, and your home. Don't be fooled by the filter pictures of some sweet potatoes, they just want to give you a sense of atmosphere, but you want to build a home for yourself. You need to refine the colors, lines, and combinations of elements you like.
